Press release

The Hope Police Department on Thursday executed a sting operation in order to catch a 47-year-old male that had been accused of sending inappropriate messages via social media.

The family of a minor made a complaint with the police department in reference to the male sending inappropriate messages and requests via Facebook messenger to the minor.

During the initial investigation the male tried to re-initiate a conversation with the minor. Unbeknownst to the male he was actually conversing with a police officer. The male requested a face to face meeting. Officers of the Hope Police Department met the male at the arranged meeting site. The male admitted to having narcotics in the vehicle and was subsequently arrested for that charge. Charges regarding the inappropriate messages will be forwarded to the prosecutor for review and consideration.

The suspect should be considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

The Bartholomew County Sheriff's Department Jail Division reports that Hope Police arrested Joseph D. Perdue, 47, of Edinburgh on a charge of possession of marijuana. He was booked into the jail at 1:49 p.m. Thursday.
