Columbus Police Department
A Hope man is in custody after he struggled with a Columbus police officer during an arrest early Saturday morning.
At approximately 1:15 a.m., Columbus Police Officer Travis Harbaugh observed a suspicious vehicle on Creekview Drive. Harbaugh spoke with the driver of the vehicle, Carl R. McNicholas, 33, and confirmed a local warrant for his arrest.
When Harbaugh attempted to take McNicholas into custody, he pulled away from the officer and attempted to flee. Harbaugh then pulled McNicholas to the ground where they continued to struggle. Harbaugh was then able to get McNicholas into handcuffs a short time later. While searching McNicholas prior to transporting him to jail, Harbaugh allegedly located a glass pipe in McNicholas' pants pocket.
McNicholas was remanded on the following preliminary charges: Bartholomew County Arrest Warrant, Resisting Law Enforcement, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.
