The Hope Wellness Pharmacy opening in the historic bank building is on track for mid-March.

Originally scheduled to open by the first of February, the pharmacy has passed several inspection benchmarks and is now on track for the new opening date of March 20th says Town Manager J.T. Doane.

Doane, speaking at last week's Town Council meeting, said that the state's final inspection of the building happened on Groundhog's Day, Feb. 2nd.

"The state did approve the building as it was reconstructed and laid out as a pharmacy," Doane said.

He said that the pharmacy's state registration number has also been approved and sent out in the mail. In fact, Doane said he picked the mail up and called the number in to the owners so they could do additional processing they needed to finish.

And Comcast has been in the building installing services.

Doane said he met with the pharmacy's main pharmacist who came to town for the first time earlier this month.

Doane said that the town will hold a grand opening and ribbon cutting to celebrate the new pharmacy when it opens.

The pharmacy is going into the former Irwin Union and First Financial bank building on the northeast side of the Hope Town Square. The building also housed the Hope Star-Journal for several years and was most recently the Hope branch of the Columbus-Area Vistor's Center and the headquarters of Heritage of Hope, including HSJ Online and the gallery for the Art Guild of Hope. The building, owned by Ken Patton, was renamed in honor of Larry Simpson, former owner and editor of the Hope Star-Journal.

The historic building at 645 Harrison St. was designed by Harry Weese in 1958.
