John and Shirley Robertson had a surprise at their church service Sunday morning at Hope United Methodist Church.
Before services began, members of the Heritage of Hope committee took to the front of the church to announce that the Robertsons had been chosen to serve as the grand marshals for this year's Hope Heritage Days parade.
Michael Dean, CEO of Heritage of Hope, read from the proclamation that will be made the morning of Sept. 24th. It said in part:
"You now join a list of esteemed past Grand Marshals who share with you a proven commitment to the Hope area community, a history of personal achievement, an unshakable devotion to your church and family, and a reputation of high moral character."
"During your distinguished and honored lives in business, public service, the military and your church, you have proven your loyalty to the Hope area community through your support of its schools, local government, and unwavering support and leadership of many noteworthy civic causes and have left a proud legacy for current and future Robertsons to follow. As our family, friends and countless colleagues over the years will attest, you have provided a steady, humble example of conveying our belief that there is 'no better place to work and live than in Hope, Ind.'
"You have lived your lives as wonderful examples to others and have made it possible for future generations in our corner of Bartholomew County to enjoy a richer, more fulfilling life."
