Press release

Columbus police arrested a Hope man on Friday after he allegedly crashed his truck into a pole, splitting it in half.

Officers responded to the 4800 block of Sawin Drive shortly before 8 p.m. in regards to the crash. When the officers arrived, they located Mark H. Forster, 66, the driver of the truck. Forster allegedly told officers that had consumed five or six beers and was heading home when the crash occurred.

While speaking with Forster, the officers detected the strong odor of an alcoholic beverage on his breath and noted that Forster had difficulty maintaining his balance. Forster allegedly failed sobriety tests administered at the crash scene and later provided a certified breath test sample of .165%, more than twice the legal limit.

Forster was placed under arrest and transported to the Bartholomew County Jail on a preliminary charge of Operating a Vehicle with a Breath Alcohol Content of .15% or Greater.
