Dave Miller: Hope is an accepting community
This business about SB 101, the Religious Freedom Restoration Act, really bothers me. Of course there are people who feel that this law is the right thing to do. But I have yet to speak to any of them in person, much less be convinced of the merit of their arguments. This law is silly and harmful and an affront to the kind and loving spirit of this community and Indiana in general.
Dave Miller: Daylight saving is patience draining
I really cannot believe that we have been observing Daylight Saving Time since 2006. That's nine years, and I am still completely befuddled by the idea. I don't know how it works, and I have no idea what it is supposed to accomplish. Every spring and fall, I feel like it is a completely new concept that I am trying -- and failing -- to understand.
Dave Miller: Pink is the color for Paul
Iris, being a 2-year-old girl, prefers pink. In fact, she prefers everything to be pink. Her favorite jacket is a pink jacket. Her favorite cupcake is a pink cupcake. Her favorite soap is pink soap. Her favorite unicorn is a pink unicorn. Her favorite Chapstick is pink Chapstick. And of course, her favorite lemonade is pink lemonade.
Dave Miller: Hope Elementary library needs our help
School budgets are tight, and smaller schools have been disproportionately squeezed. There's just not enough money to fund everything to the fullest extent, and Flat-Rock Hawcreek schools have felt that pressure for some time. One of the areas that feels that pinch is the library.
Dave Miller: Why should I care about a bad reputation anyway?
I am professionally shameless. The kinds of things that would mortify most right-thinking people, and especially men for some reason, I have no problem jumping into. You need someone to wear a clown nose? I'm your guy. You want a terrible British accent in front of a crowd? Sure, I can do that. March around the square shouting Dr. Seuss rhymes? Yeah, I've done that too.
David Miller: Bud is just wrong about bananas
I would like to refute Bud Herron's June 5th, 2014 column in the Hope Star-Journal in which he states that, "bananas are a near perfect match for human beings" among other nonsensical claptrap regarding that deplorable fruit. Bananas are not great. They're not even good. They are a sort of lowest common denominator among fruit.
