The sermon series for the month of December at Petersville United Methodist Church will be titled "Calm and Bright."

The series will be based on the 200th anniversary of the much loved Christmas hymn, "Silent Night," which was written by Father Joseph Mohr; the music was composed by Franz Gruber. It was first sung at a Christmas service in Austria. The Rev. Stormy Scherer-Berry's sermon title on Sunday will be "Peace" and scriptures from Isaiah 2:1-4, 9:2, 6-7 will be given by liturgist Patsy Harris. Special music will be shared by children and the adult choir. Teresa Covert will present the children's story. A time of fellowship will follow the service.

You are encouraged to bring any kind of star to decorate the large tree in the sanctuary. The study of "The Gift of the Nutcracker," based on the book "The Nutcracker," will begin at 10:30 a.m. each Sunday morning during Advent. Matt Rawls, the author of the study book, explores the story to help us understand God's greatest gift of the Christ Child. A workbook and a DVD will be included in the study.

Bible study classes will meet on Monday evening at the home of Larry and Connie Nolting and at the home of Chris Kimerling, both at 6:30 p.m. The Sit and Stitch group will meet Tuesday night at 6:30 p.m., also at the Nolting home. Choir practice is at 6:30 p.m. each Wednesday night at the church; Prayer Group will meet at 10 a.m. each Thursday morning, led by Barb Hedrick.
