Many of those in the Hope area will be without power one night next week as Duke Energy works on a power transmission line to the town.

Duke Energy and Bartholomew County REMC have announced that they will be shutting off power overnight Tuesday, June 11th through Wednesday, June 12th so that Duke can make upgrades to the single transmission power line that feeds the town. That feed is out of the substation on East County Road 600N.

To do the work, Duke must de-energize the line for about seven hours. But after the upgrades are complete, it should reduce the chances for future power outages.

Duke says it plans to shut off the power at 11 p.m. Tuesday, while REMC customers can expect the power to be shut off at 10:30 p.m. Power should be restored by 6 a.m. Wednesday.

Bartholomew County REMC says the outage will affect about 350 members from Schafer Lake and north. They also said a map will not be posted for security reasons.

Affected customers will receive a phone call warning them of the upcoming outage.

Another outage is scheduled overnight July 2nd through the morning of July 3rd, to complete the work.
