A Hartsville woman was among five people arrested on numerous charges early Wednesday morning as a result of an ongoing investigation that focused on repeat offenders in the community.

Officers from the Columbus Police Department’s Intelligence Led Policing Unit, which is comprised of CPD officers, a deputy from the Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Office along with a deputy prosecutor from the Bartholomew County Prosecutor’s Office, began an investigation after receiving tips from the public in regards to illegal activity at a residence in the 3100 block of Miami Court in Columbus.

During the investigation, a traffic stop was conducted on a vehicle driven by Mary J. Craig, 24, of Hartsville and her passenger Justin S. Sholty, 43, of Columbus. A short time later, a Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Office canine alerted to the odor of narcotics inside Craig’s vehicle. Both Craig and Sholty were arrested after heroin and drug paraphernalia were located inside the vehicle.

Later in the investigation, officers stopped a second vehicle driven by Donald L. Moody, 49, of Columbus. A law enforcement canine alerted to the odor of narcotics inside the vehicle and officers reportedly located methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia inside the vehicle.

As the investigation continued, the investigating officers applied for and later received a search warrant for the residence located on Miami Court. Shortly after midnight Wednesday, officers from the CPD ILP unit with the assistance of CPD SWAT, which is comprised of officers from the Columbus Police Department and Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Office, served the search warrant at the home. During a search of the home, the investigating officers located methamphetamine, heroin, marijuana, drug paraphernalia, along with three firearms.

Two people inside the house, Ryan A. Moody, 44, of Columbus and Micah D. Orr, 29, of Columbus were taken into custody.

The following people were placed under arrest and remanded to the Bartholomew County Jail with 48 hour holds as a result of the ongoing investigation:

  • Mary J. Craig: Possession of Heroin, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
  • Justin S. Sholty: Possession of Heroin, Possession of a Legend Drug Injection Device
  • Donald L. Moody: Possession of Methamphetamine, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
  • Ryan A. Moody: Possession of a Firearm by a Serious Violent Felon, Maintaining a Common Nuisance, Possession of Methamphetamine, Dealing in Marijuana, Possession of Marijuana, Possession of a Legend Drug, Possession of a Legend Drug Injection Device, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
  • Micah Orr: Possession of Heroin, Visiting a Common Nuisance, Possession of a Legend Drug Injection Device
