A Hope, Indiana man was arrested Monday morning on several charges after he reportedly crashed into a tree.

Shortly before 8 a.m., Columbus Police Department officers responded to the area of 15th Street and Washington Street in regards to an unconscious driver in the middle of the street. As officers approached the area, they observed the driver of the vehicle, who was later identified as Chanceton M. Daniels, 27, strike a tree in the 300 block of 15th Street.

After the crash, the officers observed Daniels, who was the sole occupant of the vehicle, move over to the passenger seat of the vehicle. Daniels was taken into custody a short time later. Officers recovered two glass pipes and green leafy substance that resembled marijuana inside the vehicle.

Daniels was remanded to the Bartholomew County Jail on the following preliminary charges:

  • Driving While Suspended with Prior Conviction
  • Possession of a Lookalike Substance
  • Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
  • Bartholomew County Warrant
