The Jennings County Sheriff’s Office along with the Indiana State Police are continuing the investigation into a shooting at a residence located in Geneva Township which took place on December 4th, 2020 at approximately 7:30 p.m. 

The incident occurred when Ryan Perry (age 37) from Hope, Indiana, went to the residence of Ashton Ayers (age 51) in an attempt to locate a female acquaintance.  An altercation occurred at the residence after Perry tried to enter the residence.  

After the first altercation, Ayers obtained a handgun that was kept in his home.  Perry was shot one time in the area of his abdomen as he attempted to gain entry into the home for a second time.  

Perry then left the scene and drove to the Elizabethtown Fire Department where he received medical treatment and was subsequently flown from the scene and transported to an Indianapolis Hospital for treatment.  Perry is currently in an Indiana Hospital recovering from his injuries.  

After all witnesses and evidence is collected and processed, a report will be forwarded to the Jennings County Prosecutor’s Office to determine if a criminal act was committed.
