Main Street of Hope will be looking for the best holiday home decorations. The group is sponsoring the Deck the Town Competition.

Susan Thayer-Fye, executive director, says that last year she took her two oldest grandchildren to see the lights on the Hope Town Square.

"We got out of the car even though it was very cold, we laughed, and we sang along to the music classic playing 'Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer,'" she said. "They thought the whole scene was just amazing and like nothing they had ever seen before. And then my granddaughter said, 'Mamaw, let's drive around and look at all those other pretty Christmas lights. Did you see them?."

She said she took photos and posted them to the Main Street of Hope Facebook page, where they were a big hit. This year the group will be photographing decorated homes, and any home that is decorated by Saturday night, Dec. 15th will be entered in the competition. You can vote for your favorite by first liking the group's Facebook page, and then choosing your favorites by Dec. 21st. You can search for #HopeTownJets Deck the Town Competition.

In case of a tie, the Main Street of Hope committee will be the tiebreaker.

Thayer-Fye says the winning Christmas light display with the most "likes” will be awarded a traveling “Leg Lamp”, a replica of "The Christmas Story” movie prop.

"The winners can keep the Leg Lamp until mid-January and then we will put the lamp back in storage until next year, and put the winners name and address on a commemorative plaque which will also travel with the lamp in the future," Thayer-Fye said.
