The new Hope Fire Station on Aiken Street will be named in honor of the department's long-time chief, Merrill Clouse.

Current Chief Randy Wood announced earlier this month that the station will have a plaque honoring Clouse, who was a founding member of the department and served as chief for 26 years.

Clouse died in April.

Wood told the Town Council earlier this month that the department would soon have an open house to celebrate the new station, to dedicate it to Clouse and to show off a new fire engine. Wood said.

The fire department has already paid for the new fire engine with a grant and expects to pick it up in early August, Wood said.

In other fire department updates, Wood said that the department is making plans to sell its old fire station and vacant lot across from Hope Town Hall. He said that the department doesn't have the means to support two locations.

Wood said that the department is waiting for appraisals before putting the properties on the market.
