The Yellow Trail Museum will once again be hosting a relaxed evening of fun on the Hope Town Square to celebrate our nation's birthday.

This year's Old Fashioned Independence Day Celebration will take place on Friday, June 29th, beginning about 5 p.m. and finishing with fireworks at dark.

The evening will get off to a great start with the annual Kids' Decorated Bike/Trike/ Wagon Parade that starts at the pump house at 5:45 p.m., just after the crowning of this year's Little Miss and Mr. Firecracker.

Both adults and kids are encouraged to enter their very best apple pie in the Pie Baking Contest that evening that will begin at 6 p.m. at the Kappa Kappa Sigma booth on the north side of the square. Each category (adults and kids under 12) will have three prizes of $25, $15, and $10.

Registration forms for the contests are available at the Yellow Trail Museum, WiLLow LeaVes of Hope or at the Hope Branch of the Bartholomew County Public Library.

Hartsville Fire Department will once again offer their delicious fish fry. The First Baptist Church will provide a great food booth. And don't miss the fruit crisps and homemade ice cream provided by Kappa Kappa Sigma. Restaurants around the square will also be offering outstanding meals, and WiLLow LeaVes asks you to try their chicken and noodle dinner.

During the evening, Millers Merry Manor will hold their annual Cake Walk, and there will be lots of free games and contests like watermelon seed spitting, tug of war, sack races, stilt walking, hoop rolling, etc., for kids and adults. And look for Twistin' Frank the Balloon Man.

At 6:45 p.m. Abe Lincoln will perform in the shelter house. At 7:30 p.m. the Banister Family Band will take the stage on the bandstand. And you must stay around for the great fireworks display that should begin about 10 p.m.

Most of the activities will take place inside the square, but pony rides will be in the empty lot beside Swiss Maid. Some of the businesses on the square will be open later than usual. The Yellow Trail Museum will be open all evening and will offer ice cream floats for $1.

Don't miss out on any of this old-time fun!
