Press Release

A police pursuit Sunday evening ended when the driver hit a guardrail at State Roads 9 and 46.

On April 21, 2019, Columbus Police were dispatched to a possible intoxicated driver eastbound on 25th Street. When CPD attempted a traffic stop, the suspect failed to stop and a pursuit ensued.

Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Deputy Brandon Sellers and Deputy Frank Munoz saw the suspect vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed and pursued it to the intersection of State Road 9 and East State Road 46 where the driver, identified as Steven Jordan, 68, 19565 E 50 N, Hartsville, IN, collided with a guardrail.

Prior to being taken to the Bartholomew County Jail, Jordan was taken to Columbus Regional Hospital and treated for minor injuries.

“This man put himself, my deputies and the public in danger by not stopping as the law requires”, said Bartholomew County Sheriff Matthew A. Myers. “I am glad that no one was seriously injured” added Myers.

Jordan has since been released.

Agencies assisting sheriff's deputies at the scene included Columbus Police Department, Columbus Regional Hospital EMS and Hartsville Volunteer Fire Department.
