Costumed dogs will be celebrating St. Patrick's Day on Saturday on the Hope Town Square with the annual Pooch Parade.

Susan Thayer-Fye with Main Street of HOPE says that the event will be rain-or-shine at the shelterhouse. The entry fee is $5 per dog and proceeds will go to the Paula A. Pollitt Animal Shelter in Hope.

You can also make donations of cash, dog or cat food, dog or cat treats and pet accessories.

There will be two divisions for competition: a junior division with owners/handlers 12 years and younger and a senior division for owners/handlers older than 12. Prizes will be given in three categories for each division:

  1. Pooch only in costume (most Irish)
  2. Pooch plus parent/owner in costumes (most Irish)
  3. People's Choice Pooch Award

Signups start at 11 a.m. and the parade and costume contest start at noon, Thayer-Fye said.
