Hope firefighters helped rescue a Shelbyville woman after she drove off of County Road 500N and crashed into a drainage ditch.

The Bartholomew County Sheriff's Department reports that deputies were called to the crash at about 3:58 p.m. Monday afternoon on County Road 500N east of County Road 900E.

A Kia SUV had been traveling westbound on 500N when it appears to have left the road, traveling approx. 100 feet northwest through a field before colliding with trees and a drainage ditch embankment.

The driver, Carolyn Logston, 52, Shelbyville told deputies that something ran in front of her vehicle causing her to leave the roadway.

Logston was transported by Columbus Regional Hospital ambulance to Columbus Municipal Airport where she was transferred to Lifeline helicopter and flown to MIU Methodist Hospital as a precautionary measure.

Also assisting at the scene were the Hope Police Department, Hartsville Fire Department and Columbus Fire Department.
