Press Release

On September 7, 2020, approximately 5:05 p.m., Bartholomew County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the intersection of State Road 9 and E. County Road 450N on a report of a two vehicle personal injury crash.

Deputies observed a maroon 2005 Chevrolet Astro and a blue 2011 Chevrolet Silverado – both heavily damaged.  The driver of the Astro, William Jett, 69, Seymour, IN, had been ejected from his vehicle and was flown, by Lifeline, to an Indianapolis hospital.   The driver of the Silverado, David Nickerson, 45, Columbus, was taken to Columbus Regional Hospital for treatment.

According to numerous witnesses, Mr. Jett’s vehicle was traveling southbound on State Road 9 approaching E. County Road 450N when he braked heavily for a (uninvolved) vehicle turning westbound onto 450N from State Road 9.  Mr. Jett appeared to lose control of his vehicle causing it to spin into the northbound lane where it was struck by the vehicle driven by Mr. Nickerson.

Conditions are unknown at the time of this report.

Bartholomew County Sheriff Matthew A. Myers, who was close to the scene also responded to the crash.
