John William Dishinger passed, peacefully, from this world on Wednesday, May 4, 2022, at the inpatient Hospice of South-Central Indiana at the age of 97.
He was born to Alison T. and Rose D. Dishinger on August 21, 1924. He graduated from Columbus High School then was drafted and served in WWII in the Navy. He was married for 60 years to Alma Jean Shroyer who preceded him in death in July 2011.
John worked at many Columbus businesses, including Reeves Pulley, Reliance Electric, Newsom Industries, and Cummins Engine company before starting the family dairy farm. He retired from the dairy in 1988 but continued working on his farm until 2021.
John is survived by his children, Susan (David) Payne, of Hartsville, Martha (Randall) Bentley of Greer, South Carolina, Lynn (Brenda) Dishinger and Linda Dishinger of Columbus, grandchildren Becky (Kipp) Tribble of California, BJ (Elena) Flora and Bryan Flora of South Carolina, Stephen (Kaitlyn Yancy) Dishinger and Melissa (Ryan Ingalls) Dishinger of Columbus, Amelia (Chris) Comer of Greensburg and Chris (Vernie Cincotta) Dishinger of North Carolina, and seven great-grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, John was preceded in death by his parents.
In keeping with John’s wishes, cremation will take place through Norman’s funeral home of Hope and there will be no public service. Memorials may be made to Pisgah Cemetery through the funeral home or to Hospice of South-Central Indiana. Memories may be shared with the family through Norman’s Funeral Home of Hope, Indiana.
