Tom Carr Lentz, 89, died at Columbus Regional Hospital on Aug. 20, 2020. He was the son of the late Wm. Carr and Corrilla Lentz and was born on February 24, 1931 in Clark County, IN. He married Marilyn Marr on Dec. 16, 1956 at New Hope Christian Church in Columbus. She preceded him in death by just over 2 months

Though Tom would often say he had many faults, he had faith that he is saved by the love of Jesus Christ, His death, and resurrection. Tom loved his wife and family very much. He said he lived by the statement: “First in life: faith, family, farming, and friends.”

Tom worshiped and served in many capacities at the Flat Rock Christian Church, Community Church of Columbus, and Athens Church of Columbus.

He served his community by being a member of the Flat Rock-Haw Creek School Board for 8 years, a trustee of Columbus Regional Hospital for 16 years, and a member of the Clifford Volunteer Fire Department for 14 years. He served as a Democrat Precinct Official for many elections. He was Co-Grand Marshal of Hope Heritage Day Parade in Hope, IN.

He also served on various other community committees and boards. He was known and respected by many in the Columbus and Hope communities for his work ethic and was often elected or asked to serve in positions of service because of his conservative and common sense approach to public matters.

Tom was a lifelong farmer, continuing to be active in the farm operation up to his death. He also enjoyed riding his bicycle, walking, and generally enjoyed working and being outside in all seasons.

He graduated from Clifford High School in 1950 and attended Purdue University. He was a veteran of the Korean War.

Tom is survived by son Bill (Shari) Lentz of Columbus, IN; daughter Lea Ann Lane (Steve) of Hope, IN; and son T. Daniel (Kimberly) Lentz of Whitestown, IN.
