Town police seek funding for 4th officer

The Hope Police Department is again seeking funding for a fourth officer.

Town Marshal Matt Tallent said that he has applied for a grant to bring up the staffing, so that the town could have around-the-clock local police protection. As it now stands, officers provide 20 hours of coverage a day, with the Bartholomew County Sheriff's Department providing the other four hours of protection.

The grant, through Police One, would pay for three years of an officer's salary and the Town Council would have to agree to pay for a fourth year.

"It will have to be for four years," Tallent said.

Tallent said new officers pay starts at about $30,000.

Tallent said he expects to hear back on the grant application by October or November.[[In-content Ad]]
