Columbus Regional Hospital implements new security measures
In late December, the CrossChx system, SafeChx, was installed at registration points at Columbus Regional Hospital, offering patients advanced medical identity theft protection and increasing efficiency in patient registration.
CrossChx uses biometric technology to scan a patient's right index finger and assign that patient a unique code linking them to their medical information. After the initial set up process, the patient scans his or her finger one time to verify their identity. The patient's unique fingerprint scan is not stored; it is merely used as an identification tool to link a patient to his or her personal medical information each time they require hospital services.
"We are excited to be able to offer this service as a measure of enhancing patient safety and security. The program is currently being used in our emergency department and general registration areas," said Susan Rust, director of patient financial services at Columbus Regional Health. "We plan to expand the use of CrossChx to additional outpatient registration areas in the near future."
CrossChx technology also works to eliminate medical errors due to patient misidentification and streamline the patient experience. The identification system is a voluntary security option that registrars will offer new and existing patients of Columbus Regional Health.[[In-content Ad]]
