Cross-country teams off to fast start

Hauser's high school and junior high cross-country teams opened their seasons with invitational meets at Rising Sun and Greensburg.

Freshman Tammy Essex was the girls' team top finisher on Saturday at the Rising Sun Beast of the Southeast Invitational, coming in 13th with a time of 25:40.3. Lauryn Starnes was 15th (26:31.3), and Leah Joyce 30th (20:37.5). David Seelye's time of 18:11.9 was good for 5th place in the boys race. Ryan Ault finished 13th (20:25.3), Jordan Johnson 14th (20:30.1), Brock Thalls 30th (22.59.5), and Sam Robinson 34th (23:49.8). Hauser's boys placed fifth as a team.

1. Taylor 19; 2. Rising Sun 56; 3. Southwestern (Hanover) 64; Hauser, South Decatur, and Waldron incomplete

Boys Race

1. Taylor 41; 2. Southwestern (Hanover) 70; 3. Rising Sun 73; 4. Waldron 86; 5. Hauser 95; 6. South Decatur 126

The junior high cross team's first meet of the year was Monday's Greensburg Middle School Invitational.

Hauser finished 12th out of 16 teams in the boys varsity race. Tanner Ault took 34th place with a time of 12:24.6, followed by Alex Bower in 53rd (12:58.9), Sam Estes in 67th (13:18.5), and Collin Ault in 76th (13:39.3). Aden Cheshire (106th, 17:21.6), Colin Kistler (107th, 17:36.6), and Holden Pittman (108th, 18:27.0) rounded out the Jets squad.

Savannah Vanderlind, Hauser's sole contestant in the girls varsity race, finished with a time of 17:58. In the boys reserve race, Hagen Weidersatz ran a time of 17:59.5 for 107th place.

The junior high Jets host the Waldron Mohawks on Thursday, while the high school teams compete next in Saturday's Rushville Invitational.[[In-content Ad]]
