Demolitions begin in preparation for State Road 252 work

Press release

FLAT ROCK - Indiana Department of Transportation met with its contractor at Seymour District offices Monday morning to coordinate demolition and clearing activities along State Road 252 between Interstate 65 and Flat Rock in Jackson and Washington Townships of Shelby County.

Beaty Construction of Boggstown, INDOT's contractor, plans to demolish three structures later this week along State Road 252 where right of way has been purchased in advance of a resurfacing and widening project scheduled to be let in July. Two properties are in rural areas. One is in the town of Flat Rock.

Trees, brush and fencing will be removed from right-of-way areas as weather permits once structures have been demolished. Motorists will be directed around work sites-as needed-by flaggers.

This $358,000 project clears the way for utility relocations.

Next summer, the state plans to secure a contractor for making full-depth pavement repairs and sight-distance corrections before widening the S.R. 252 to accommodate two 12-foot lanes with 6-foot shoulders. The east-west highway will be resurfaced. Structures at Flat Rock River and an overflow area will be refurbished.

INDOT anticipates operations at the I-65/State Road 252 interchange in 2016. Mainline work will occur in 2017.[[In-content Ad]]
