By Submitted by Harriet Armstrong-
The Purdue Extension - Bartholomew County office will be offering Dining with Diabetes sessions at two different times and at two different locations. Beginning Wednesday, Jan. 21st from 2 to 4 p.m., it will be held at Mill Race Center. And beginning on Friday, Jan. 23rd from 6 to 8 p.m., it will be held at Faith Ministries, 5103 W. State Road 46.
Dining with Diabetes is a series of four sessions. The Dining with Diabetes program is open to those with diabetes, their family members and caretakers, or those who want to learn about how to eat healthy.
The series of four sessions is $20 per person or $15 per couple. Scholarships are available if needed upon request. Pre-registration and payment is required. Participants are encouraged to attend all class sessions.
The educational programs and sampling sessions will help adults with Type 2 diabetes control their blood sugar to feel better and reduce risk of health complications. You will learn how to prepare meals that are healthy, easy to prepare and taste good. Recipes will be demonstrated, and participants will have the opportunity to taste each one. Participants will also learn up-to-date information on nutrition, meal planning, exercise and how to understand common diabetes-related medical tests. Recipe and handouts will be given to each participant.
Diabetes is a very serious and costly disease, but research has shown that those who learn to manage their blood glucose (sugar) levels eat a healthy diet and exercise regularly can lower their risks of complications and lead a healthier and more productive life.
Purdue Extension - Bartholomew County is currently recruiting participants for this program. If you have been diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes, or know someone and are part of the support system for an individual and are interested in being a part of this program, please call Purdue Extension office at 812-379-1665. Registration and program fee should be paid by Friday, Jan. 16th.
The program fee includes educational classes, program materials and food sampling.
