Duck Ponderings: Senior night adds to special game

Small school and small community pride was evident in the Hauser gym Tuesday. Seniors for the fall teams were honored. The Edinburgh Lancers and Jets battled in an important conference volleyball match. All of the lower bleachers were pulled out which gave you a sense of the specialness of the evening.

Hauser prevailed in the first set 25-17 as both teams battled back and forth early until the Jets started pulling away at the end. Edinburgh pulled away in the second set and went up as much as 8 points until Hauser fought to tie the score at 22-22 only to lose 23-25. The third set was close at the beginning until Hauser started taking control and leading as much as 13 points with the final score being 25-14. Momentum was on Hauser's side. In the fourth set, the Jets grabbed an early lead of 6 points only to find the Lancers fighting back to within 2 points, Hauser then went up by 5 and Edinburgh cut the lead down to 2 again. However, Hauser pulled away and won 25-16.

It was a well played match throughout with some incredible offensive and defensive plays by each team. Both teams served aggressively. The ball did not hit the floor without all kinds of effort in trying to dig it up. Passers and setters worked extremely hard to get the ball to their hitters while setters incorporated an occasional well placed dump. Often, attackers found two blockers to try to hit around. Many balls were driven hard while others were softly placed in a zone hard to cover. Every player was into the match whether they were on the court or on the bench.

Our cheer block was large and enthusiastic. The crowd added to their efforts. It was another great night in the community of Hope![[In-content Ad]]
