Duck Ponderings: To the Cornfields Again
The Hauser Jets are now scheduled to take on North Central around 1 p.m. Saturday, June 4 at the North Daviess Semistate, the same place we played last season. North Daviess is around Elnora, about a two hour drive and off of State Road 58. It reminds me of a place I played a lot of softball when younger, Four Corners in Jennings County. The diamond was close to a church surrounded by fields. I remember a particular tourney which we were playing a team from a big city. They had on matching uniforms with cleats while most of us had come from the fields in our jeans and tennis shoes. Their coach asked our coach if we played much softball. It did not take long for them to find out as we quickly put them in the loser's bracket. Then, we went on to win the tourney. We grew up playing the game on the farm with family and neighbors and on the playground while in small schools during recess. Many members of that team ended up winning the Church State Championship in Terre Haute.
We know our Lady Jets will be competitive. A team can not win game after game without being very special! North Daviess seems to be a perfect location and fit for a team which members have seen a few cornfields. It will be somewhat like home. Then again, they would be competitive playing in a major city. I would suggest you get there early to watch them practice. You will have a better understanding of why we have a great system and program!
