Election filing opens

The filing period for candidates who want to run for office in the 2016 election opened Wednesday.

Hope elected offices on the ballot include clerk-treasurer, and the Ward 1, 2 and 3 seats on the Hope Town Council.

In Bartholomew County's countywide races, races up for election this year include two seats on the County Commissioners, the three at-large seats on County Council, Circuit Court judge surveyor and coroner.

On Wednesday, the first day of filing, candidates filing included:

County Commissioner District 1: Republicans Jorge Morales and Susan Thayer-Fye.

Circuit Court Judge: Republican Kelly Benjamin

County Council: Incumbent Republicans Bill Lentz, Evelyn Pence and Jim Reed.

Coroner: Republicans Clayton Nolting and Ron Shadley and Democrat Paula Rothrock.

Survey: Incumbent Republican E.R. Gray.

The filing period for the May Republican and Democratic primary elections closes on Friday, Feb. 5th at noon. You can sign up to run at the Bartholomew County Voter Registration office in the County Courthouse on Washington Street in Columbus.
