The Hawcreek-Flat Rock Area Endowment is closing in on a fundraising goal to match a $10,000 grant from Heritage Fund: The Community Foundation of Bartholomew County.

Tom Finke, chairman of the endowment, said that the Heritage Fund had offered the endowment a $10,000 dollar-for-dollar match last year and the response was so strong, that another $10,000 was offered for this year. The fundraising period for the second matching fund runs until Dec. 31st.

"We had a really good response toward the end of last year," Finke said. "I think we are just about there."

Finke said that this is the first time the endowment has received money directly from the Heritage Fund. Previously the endowment did receive money from a Lilly grant that was channeled through the Heritage Fund, Finke said.

"We would kind of like to keep that ball rolling," Finke said. "If we could get some of that Heritage Fund money again, we could kind of keep the momentum going."

Finke said that the money will go directly into the endowment to help it grow.

The endowment annually gives grants to local not-for-profit organizations to help with their activities in Flat Rock and Hawcreek townships.

The 2015 grant recipients were:

  • Clifford Volunteer Fire Department -- POK Nozzle and Cartridges
