First Fridays will feature "Pirate School" on Feb. 6th
Set sail with a madcap, one-man swashbuckling variety show at Old National Bank's First Fridays for Families on Friday, Feb. 6th at 6 p.m. in The Commons on Washington Street in downtown Columbus.
Veteran family entertainer David Engel is the bumbling pirate Billy Bones who lives to teach zany lessons on how to stand, talk, laugh, eat, and sing like a boisterous buccaneer. Pirate School! combines active, full-audience participation with real magic, original music, eye-popping puppetry, eccentric props, and slapstick antics.
During the show kids learn the finer points of mischief and become "good pirates" - cooperating and carousing together and promoting good social values and polite behavior. Pirate School! has captivated audiences for over 15 years and was featured in New York Magazine's "Best of New York: Kids."
"If you've ever needed an excuse to dress up like a pirate, this is it. We hope kids - and their caregivers - come in costume. It's a great show for all ages" said Karen Shrode, the arts council's executive director.
Sponsored by Old National Bank, First Fridays for Families is a free arts program that focuses on enriching the lives of pre-kindergarten through third grade children by highlighting the performing arts. All First Fridays for Families programs begin at 6:00 PM on the first Friday of each month from November through April and are held in the Nugent Custer Performance Hall in The Commons in downtown Columbus.
