Flat Rock-Hawcreek schools face funding drop

By HSJ Online [email protected]

Flat Rock- Hawcreek schools are facing a loss of $428,905 in next year's budget, a 7.5 percent drop in funding, according to figures presented at a special school board work session Tuesday night.

The drop in funding is tied to a drop in enrollment, as the district anticipates 855 students next year - a drop of 276 students in the past 10 years, said Dr. Kathy Griffey, the school district superintendent.

And while the district has found creative ways to keep funding teachers and programs in years past, those life rafts of money are now all gone, Griffey said.
