Former Hope officer promoted to detective

Bartholomew County Sheriff's Deputy Jason Williams has been promoted to the rank of Detective effective Aug. 17th.

As a detective, Williams will be responsible for:

  • investigating crimes


  • obtaining evidence


  • interviewing witnesses


  • analyzing reports


  • preparing charges


  • testifying in court


  • Detective Williams began his career with the Sheriff's Office in 1999 as a civilian officer before being hired as a Merit Deputy in 2003. He has worked in the uniform division since that time.

    Detective Williams also served as deputy marshal at Hope PD from 2000-2003 prior to being hired by the Sheriff's Office.

    "I am very happy to move to the Detective Division", said Williams. It will be a new opportunity for me and I am looking forward to it", he added.

    Williams is an Indiana Law Enforcement Academy instructor teaching Physical and Defensive Tactics, Ground Fighting, as well as OC (Mace) and other "use of force" subjects. He recently attended instructor school for Less Lethal Munitions and Chemical Munitions.  He has also served as an FTO (Field Training Officer).

    "Detective Williams has earned the respect of his colleagues and has proven his commitment to serve and protect the citizens of Bartholomew County," said Capt. Chris Roberts, head of the Bartholomew County Sheriff's Office Detective Division. "I congratulate Detective Williams and look forward to working with him in the Detective Division. I know he is committed to the highest standards of public safety."

    Williams is married to Danielle Williams. He has one daughter, Makynze, and two step-sons Daniel and Dilyn.

    Williams enjoys spending time with his family. He is also an avid runner and plans to run his second half marathon next month in the Mill Race Marathon.[[In-content Ad]]
