Harold Vern Dailey, 94, of Hope

Harold Vern Dailey, 94, of Hope passed away Wednesday, April 8, 2015 at Miller's Merry Manor near Hope.

Harold was born Nov. 1st, 1920 in Hamilton County, the son of Uriah and Flora Mae Gore Dailey. He married Helen Mae Dodd on Aug. 4th, 1946; she preceded him in death in 2003. Harold married Hester Huffer in 2004; she preceded him in death in 2010.

Harold was a Past Master of the Hope Masonic Lodge #150, a member of Hope Moravian Church, Big Brothers/Big Sisters mentor, a member of the American Legion and the Bartholomew County Veterans Honor Guard. Harold joined the U.S. Navy on Jan. 28th, 1942 where he was a master captain gunner's mate on the USS Cleveland (CL-55) until honorably discharged Oct. 27th, 1945. He earned 13 bronze stars in the American-European-African-Middle Eastern Area, the Philippines, Libya and the Asiatic Pacific Area. Harold retired from Silgas in 1982.

Surviving are his children Shirley Ray, David (Pamela) Dailey and Dennis (Paula) Dailey all of Columbus, grandchildren Ryan Ray of North Carolina, Neil (Trishia) Dailey of Oklahoma, Lauren Dailey of Indianapolis, Alison Dailey and Taylor Kirchner of Columbus, 6 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grand children; siblings, Irene Percifield of Spencer, IN, Marion Boilanger of Cleveland, OH, Dale (Esther) Dailey, Janet (Louis) Bense and Alva (Carol) Dailey all of Hope and a sister-in-law, Nora (Ernest) Dailey of Columbus.

He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Verna Mae; his wives; parents; brothers, Earl, Homer and Ernest Dailey; sister, Dorothy Whittington.

The funeral service will be held Monday at 2 p.m. at Norman Funeral Home in Hope, with Don Moody and Rev. Andy Kilps officiating. Calling hours will be from 11 a.m. until service time. There will be a Masonic Service prior to service time at 2 p.m. Burial will be at Hope Moravian Cemetery with full military graveside rites.

Memorials may be made to the Hope Moravian Cemetery Perpetual Care Fund or Our Hospice of South Central Indiana through the funeral home.
