Hartsville man arrested after Columbus chase

A Hartsville man was arrested after he allegedly ran from Columbus police officers on Saturday evening while carrying methamphetamine.

According to police reports, Columbus officer Andrew Plank saw, Robert W. Hiatt, 23, driving a vehicle in the 800 block of Maple Street at about 7 p.m. Plank knew that Hiatt had a warrant for his arrest and when the officer attempted to stop the vehicle, Hiatt allegedly refused to pull over.

After a short chase, Hiatt left the vehicle and fled into a residence in the 800 block of Hutchins Avenue. Hiatt was taken into custody inside the residence a short time later. Officers also allegedly located methamphetamine inside the vehicle Hiatt had been driving. Hiatt was booked into the Bartholomew County Jail on preliminary charges of:

  • Driving While Suspended

  • Bartholomew County Warrant

  • Possession of Methamphetamine
