Hauser golf team looks for big season with new coach
By From Mike Compton-
With four returning team members from 2016's Greensburg Sectional lineup, the Hauser golf team's expectations are high for a fun and successful 2017 season.
The Hauser Golf program has 10 members for 2017.
Junior Justin Compton was the low Hauser 2016 scorer returning along with seniors Owen Green, Nick Neafus, Spencer Seim from last year's sectional team. Trevor Potts, Conner and Clayton Wilson are the remaining senior members. Clayton returns to the squad after running track last year but did compete on the golf team his freshman and sophomore years. Exchange student junior Jaime Saez Barbero and Matt Sweet are the junior team members and Sam Johnson is the lone freshman.
This year's coach is Mike Compton, a 1975 Hauser alum. Donita Compton will serve as varsity assistant and Josh Goodman will be an assistant coach. Golf is an individual sport but at the high school level, the team's score is the total of the top four individual scores.
The coaching staff will need to stress to the team that every shot counts and you never know when a shot you save on your score could help the team score.
"We look forward to the upcoming season. Golf is sport you can play and enjoy your entire life and the coaches want to help the team constantly improve so the game is enjoyable for them," Compton said.
