Hauser Hoops for Feb. 3rd: Freshmen finish perfect season with championship

The freshman boys team jumped out to 17-0 lead in the first three minutes of the MHC Championship game and never looked back.

By halftime the lead was 28-10, and finished with a 53-28 win over North Decatur.

"Hard work really pays off, and these kids are living proof,: said Coach Doug Johnson while his team was cutting down the net. "I couldn't be more proud of these guys. They have great attitudes and have been a blessing to coach."

Just a little history lesson about this group of freshmen. As stated on Brian Meek's Facebook page:

"Seven years ago coaches Jon Titus and Don Coombs took eight second graders to compete in a third grade travel league. The boys lost every game with most defeats by more than 25 points. Over the years more boys joined them and Coach Spencer Gross took on the travel coaching as well as fifth and sixth grade. Coaches Brian Rose, Andy Dempsey, Denny Herron, Ryan McDaniel, and Doug Johnson have also been part of the growing. Tonight, kids that could not win finished the freshman season 17-0."

Thank you Brian for this tidbit.

This squad didn't just play schools the size of Hauser. They had big wins over Columbus North, Greensburg, Batesville, Shelbyville, Triton Central, Brown County and Indianapolis Scecina. They won three Tournaments this season as well.

Congratulations once again and a job well done, Coach Johnson and team: Matt & Joe Sweet, Mason Sherman, Jon Hatton, Andrew Titus, Sam Robinson, Sam Meek, Jacob Rose, Brad Paetzel, and Alex Gross.

Two other players worth mentioning from this group are Justin Compton, who moved up to the Junior Varsity team and Kaden Pattingill, who was unable to play due to knee surgery. Jet fans are looking forward to seeing this squad at the Junior Varsity level next season.
