Hauser principal chosen as FRHC superintendent
The board approved the decision at its Tuesday night meeting.
Price, originally from Warren County, said he came to Hauser six years ago and spent three years as assistant principal before becoming principal.
Price received his bachelor's degree in social studies education from Indiana State University in Terre Haute, and his master's degree in administration from ISU also. He has his certification for superintendent from ISU and is working towards his doctorate.
He and his family live in Shelbyville and he said Flat Rock-Hawcreek has been a perfect fit for them.
"It has just been great all around," Price said. "It is almost like a family feel with the faculty, the staff here. I think the kids pick up on that. Everybody just helps each other out. I just couldn't ask for a better place to work."
Price said one of his biggest challenges will be the continuing funding crunch caused by declining enrollment.
"Like many schools within the state, declining enrollment has been an issue and it is an issue here," Price said. "I think that the first, biggest challenge will be to get the word out about all the great things Hauser has to offer and Flat Rock-Hawcreek."
Price said he is encouraged by the improving grade of Hope Elementary this year and Hauser has had the same success and consistency. He said he will push to make people aware of the personalized attention and the small school atmosphere enjoyed by the students and staff.
Price will take on the role full-time on July 1st and a search is on for a new principal for Hauser.
"I have been very transparent and talked to the staff about the possibility for this job happening," Price said. "I still have a job to do as principal of Hauser, and I am already starting to step in to see how some of these decisions are being made for the corporation and having them in mind. My focus for the next few months is going to be trying to do both jobs."
Steven Wilson, president of the school board, said Price was chosen from 14 candidates.
"We had a lot of qualified candidates," Wilson said. " We interviewed four of the 14 applicants that we had. They were all very strong. They all had different strengths and weaknesses. We felt that Mr. Price... had the best strengths for what we needed at this time."
"He has done a very good job as the principal for us here at Hauser... Junior-Senior High. We expect him to be able to have the same success with the whole school, with the elementary as well."
"We are just very pleased to have him."
Dr. Kathy Griffey will retire as superintendent at the end of June.
"I am very excited about (Mr.) Price being the new superintendent," Griffey said. "I think he is well prepared. He knows our school corporation so well. That is going to take him a long way towards being able to just hit the ground running as far as doing what needs to be done and making good choices for Flat Rock-Hawcreek School Corp."
