Hauser's cross country teams opened their season Saturday at Rising Sun's Beast of the Southeast Invitational. Hauser joined MHC schools Southwestern (Shelbyville), Waldron, and South Decatur as well as Trinity Lutheran and Southwestern (Hanover) in tackling a hilly "beast" of a course at Rising Sun's Denver Siekman Environmental Park.

The girls race was won by Rising Sun's Kasey Baker in 23:07.8. Hauser's sole runner, Naomi Gollmer, placed 22nd with a time of 29:17.3.

Zach Martini of Rising Sun led the boys race from the start, crossing the line in 16:50.9. The Jets were led with 15th and 16th place finishes by Owen Rush (19:37.4) and David Seelye (19:43.7). Jordan Johnson (21:59.1) finished 28th, Austin Everroad (22:11.8) came in 29th, and Hunter Albright rounded out the team with a 33rd place finish and a personal best of 22:51.8.

Southwestern (Hanover) took home the first-place team trophy for both races, edging out Southwestern (Shelbyville) in the boys contest with a tie-breaking sixth runner. Hauser's boys finished 7th in team scoring.

The Jets compete again Saturday, Aug. 29th in the Division III Race at the Rushville Invitational. [[In-content Ad]]
