A Hauser Spanish teacher will head to Argentina next school year to live, learn and ultimately return with some new skills.

Tiarra Clarkston, who teaches multiple levels of Spanish, was among 20 educators chosen from a field of about 100 applicants nationwide for an all-expenses-paid Fulbright Scholarship, Hauser Principal J.P. Mayer said.

Founded by U.S. Senator J. William Fulbright in 1946, the scholarship provides merit-based grants for international educational exchange for students, scholars, teachers, professionals, scientists and artists, according to the program website. It was established to increase mutual understanding between the people of the United States and other countries in order to promote peace and friendship.

Mayer said Clarkston was selected for her "Circle of Educators" proposal. He declined to share details, preferring that Clarkston explain it herself. Clarkston could not be reached for comment.

The educator will leave for Argentina in March 2018 and miss part of two school years before returning home, Mayer said.[[In-content Ad]]
