The Hope Elementary Library and the Hope Branch of the Bartholomew County Public Library will be part of a book-purchasing program organized by the Women's Giving Circle of Bartholomew County.

The program, called "Turning the Page -- For Girls in Bartholomew County," has a goal is to add books to local school and public libraries throughout Bartholomew County about women's contributions and literature. The Giving Circle, a project under Heritage Fund: The Community Foundation of Bartholomew County, is raising $5,000 for the effort, says Kristin Munn, director of development for Heritage Fund.

The Giving Circle will be purchasing books such as "Almost Astronauts: 13 women who dared to dream" by Tanya Stone; "Amazing Women" by Caryn Jenner and "Rad American Women A-Z" by Kate Schatz. The titles were selected by staff at Bartholomew Consolidated Schools, Munn said.

Munn said Turning the Page is important because it helps fill the need for young girls to have strong female role models and to see themselves represented positively in literature.

"The Women's Giving Circle is so excited about the opportunity to partner with our local schools and build a lasting collection of books that will inspire and empower young readers for years to come," Munn said.
