The Flat Rock-Hawcreek Schools food services department will be offering summer time lunches to students and parents again this year through a federal grant.

Lisa Garrison, food services director for the school district, said the schools are in the fourth and last year of the grant. that allows them to provide lunches for free to children 18 years old and younger.

Adults can also be fed and are asked to make a donation to cover the costs.

The summer lunch program will be held at the Hope Elementary Cafeteria, Mondays through Fridays from June 1st to July 31st. Lunches are available from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and the program will close the week of June 29th to July 3rd.

"We serve anywhere from 50 to our highest has been 125 a day," Garrison said. "And we also offer an open site at our Community Bible School for a supper meal."

The Community Vacation Bible School supper program runs from June 14th to 18th from 5 to 5:45 p.m.

The elementary school site and the Bible school are both open sites, for use by anyone in the community.

There is also a closed site only for the students at the Hope Community Center pre-school, Garrison said.

Garrison said she believes people use the program both because of a need and for the convenience.

"For parents, it is a nice break for them, if they have a day planned out - going to the park, or to the library - to stop off and eat," Garrison said. "We have some older kids that will ride their bikes. I think if they were at home, they might not be fixing a hot meal. They might get up and snack around if they were home by themselves for the day."[[In-content Ad]]
