Hope pair arrested on drug-dealing charges

Columbus police arrested two Hope residents for allegedly dealing narcotics and carrying a handgun without a license after an officer located the weapon and a large amount of methamphetamine and marijuana in their vehicle Tuesday night.
At approximately 11:15 p.m., Officer Travis Harbaugh conducted a license plate check on a red sport utility vehicle. he license plate returned to a black passenger car and Harbaugh stopped the vehicle in the 800 block of Werner Avenue. Harbaugh noted the strong odor of marijuana coming from inside of the SUV while speaking to the driver, Jermaine D. Ford, 31, of Hope and his passenger Cassandra R. Absher, 30 of Hope.
A short time later, officers confirmed an Illinois arrest warrant for Ford and he was taken into custody. The officers confiscated over $2,100 in cash from Ford prior to transporting him to jail.
While searching the vehicle the officers located a loaded 9mm handgun and a bag containing marijuana. Officers also located three large bags of methamphetamine in a backpack and a digital scale inside the vehicle.
Upon arriving at the Bartholomew County Jail, the jail officers located two bags of methamphetamine and one bag of marijuana that Absher had allegedly concealed in her clothing.
Ford and Absher were remanded to custody of the Bartholomew County Jail with a 48 hour hold on the following preliminary charges:
