Hope-raised officer makes arrest on first day of patrol

A Ripley County man is in custody after he allegedly fled on foot during a traffic stop in Columbus on Wednesday afternoon. At approximately 2:10 p.m. Columbus Police Officers Frank Dickman and Reid Thayer attempted to stop a vehicle with a false and fictitious license plate near 8th Street and Cottage Avenue.
The driver, Shane D. Wilson, 21, of Sunman, Indiana forcefully pulled away from an officer a short time later and began fleeing on foot. The officers pursed Wilson.
Wilson was apprehended by Officer Thayer, who was finishing his first day of training as a CPD officer, in the backyard of a residence in the 700 block of Maple Street. Officers confirmed a local warrant for Wilson's arrest and he was transported to the Bartholomew County Jail on preliminary charges of Resisting Law Enforcement and a Bartholomew County Warrant.
Thayer was sworn in to the Columbus Police Department in October and then went to attend the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy, later in the month. Thayer (#262) is a 23 year old native from Hope, where he graduated from Hauser High School. Reid attended Vincennes University where he earned a bachelor's degree in Homeland Security and Public Safety. Reid also played baseball while at Vincennes and was the team captain during the 2013-2014 season.[[In-content Ad]]
