Hope student graduates from online high school

Storm Carmer, from Hope, graduated earlier this month from Indiana Connections Academy. He will be attending Northern Kentucky University in Highland Heights, Ky.
Families from across Indiana, including Hope gathered recently at Indianapolis Convention Center, to celebrate the graduation of over 470 students from Indiana Connections Academy, a tuition-free, public online school.
Many of the recent graduates enrolled at Indiana Connections Academy capitalized on the school's commitment to personalized learning, and took advantage of its flexible schedule options. Because of this flexibility, students can chase their personal dreams while receiving a high-quality education.
"In addition to providing our students with a solid education, as digital platforms continue to grow in popularity across college campuses and workspaces, online learning at Indiana Connections Academy prepares our graduates for success in today's climate," said Melissa Brown, the principal of Indiana Connections Academy. "By learning outside of a traditional classroom, students take on the responsibility of time and project management, giving them a leg-up on many of their peers when entering college or beginning their careers."
Online education appeals to all types of students and families for a range of reasons. According to a 2015 third-party survey of Connections Academy online school parents, the top reasons for choosing virtual school include the desire for a more flexible schedule, wanting a change from their current school situation and wanting a safe learning environment.
Enrollment at Indiana Connections Academy is open for the 2017-2018 school year and information sessions are being held across the state.
