Hope teen dies in motorcycle crash
Xavier M. Scrogham, 18, was found dead in a grassy area at about 11:43 p.m. after his motorcycle left the road at a sharp turn and he struck the line holding up the pole. Deputy Dane Duke was in the area and noticed a tire track running off the roadway, which led him to the accident scene.
A few minutes earlier in the evening, at about 11:36 p.m., an off-duty Nashville reserve police officer had come across a similar motorcycle without a license plate driving on U.S. 31 near Lowell Road. After following the motorcycle, the driver sped off and the Nashville officer took chase, before losing the motorcycle near County Road 650E and 25th Street.
Scrogham was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. His motorcycle came to rest in a nearby soybean field, police said.
Scrogham is the son of Calvyn Johnson-Bey and Carleen Scrogham of Hope. A calling will be held at Norman Funeral Home from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday and from 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. funeral services Friday.[[In-content Ad]]
