Ivy Tech offering manufacturing camp for 8th graders

Ivy Tech Community College is hosting free summer camps across the region this year to introduce 8th grade students to career opportunities within the field of advanced manufacturing and provide them with workforce readiness soft skills. The Fast PASS summer camps will be 3-day learning opportunities that will integrate industry and business mentors, who will work with students throughout the experience.

Current 8th grade students in Bartholomew, Decatur, Jackson, and Jennings counties are invited to attend the free camps this June.

Fast PASS summer camps will provide campers with opportunities to:

  • Explore career opportunities in the field of advanced manufacturing;

  • Meet industry and business professionals who will mentor them on soft skills needed for careers, including timeliness, communication, leadership and problem solving;

  • Learn about the education and skills needed for a variety of jobs;

  • Identify high school classes they can take while also earning college credit.

    In order for students to participate, their parents or guardians must attend an upcoming mandatory meeting in their county.

    The dates and locations for the parent meetings are as follows:

  • Jackson: 6-7:30 p.m. April 26 at the Jackson County Learning Center, 323 Dupont Drive, Seymour.

  • Decatur: 6-7:30 p.m. April 27 at the Community Learning Center, 422 E. Central Ave., Greensburg.

  • Bartholomew: 6-7:30 p.m. May 2 at the Advanced Manufacturing Center of Excellence, 4444 Kelly St., Columbus.

    The meetings will provide parents with more information on the dates, locations, and activities of the camps. Camp applications will be available at the meetings or by signing up through the Fast PASS page on Facebook: www.facebook.com/fastpasstoadvancedmanufacturing.
