Joanna Lawless Wade, 88, of Flat Rock

Joanna Lawless Wade, 88, of Flat Rock, died Thursday, November 9, 2017 at her home.

Joanna spent most of her life as a housewife.

She graduated from St. Paul High School in 1947. She was a member of Flat Rock United Methodist Church, Norristown Chapter Eastern Star, American Quilters Society, and was a member of a Shelby County Home Ec Club.

She enjoyed quilts show and family history. She was an avid reader. Joanna loved her grandkids and great-grandkids.

Born on Aug. 18, 1929 in St. Paul, IN Joanna was the daughter of John Patrick and Ruth Rockafeller Lawless. She married Ralph Wade on January 21, 1951 at Flat Rock United Methodist Church, and he preceded her in death on October 17, 2011.

Survivors include children, Logan Ralph Wade and Mary (Rusty) Smiley, both of Flat Rock; grandchildren, Jesse (Rochelle) Mathena of Greenwood, Donnell (Lenora) Mathena of Freetown, and Joseph (Kayla) Mathena of Alert; great-grandchildren, Jesse, Devon, Wade, Annabelle, and Josey Mathena; and several nieces and nephews.

Joanna is preceded in death by her parents; husband; brother, Robert Lawless; and sister, Hester Petty.

Cremation is planned. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, Nov. 16 at 7 p.m. at Flat Rock United Methodist Church will Rev. Les Fix officiating. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. at the church.
