Johnson chosen as Republic's Woman of the Year

Barb Johnson has been chose as The Republic newspaper's 2016 Woman of the Year.

The newspaper has been giving the award annually since 1982 and it comes with a $2,000 donation to a charity of the winner's choice.

Johnson, a former elementary teacher, is director of the Yellow Trail Museum, a Simmons School marm and member of the Christmas of Yesteryear committee. She received the Sagamore of the Wabash award for her efforts to restore and to preserve the schoolhouse and she has received the Edna V. Folger Outstanding Teaching Award.

Last year she was chosen as an outstanding alumni of Hauser High School.

She is married to Ed Johnson, former chief of the Hartsville Volunteer Fire Department.[[In-content Ad]]
