Marjorie V. Reynolds, 88, Richmond

Born Jan. 1, 1927, in Bartholomew County near Hope, to Clarence and Susan Stewart McKinney, Marjorie graduated from Hope High School. She earned her BA degree from Franklin College and later attended summer sessions at the University of Wisconsin. Marjorie was employed for 20 years by the Purdue University Cooperative Extension Service. Her first assignment was as a home demonstration agent in Harrison County, Indiana. In 1955 she was transferred to Wayne County, working 13 years with adult homemakers, 4-H Club members, and community groups. She was recognized statewide for development of teaching materials and classes for young homemakers in areas of time and money management, consumer education, and sewing for the pre-school child.
In 1961, she was selected to represent the home agents of the United States at the Middle East International Exhibition in Cairo, Egypt. Marjorie, along with 35 other U.S. specialists, presented seminars, gave demonstrations, and met fair visitors from all over the world. Twenty-three nations participated. From 1973 to 1990 she was a social worker with the Wayne County Welfare Department. Marjorie was committed to helping others improve their lives.
Marjorie was a long-time member of First Baptist Church, where she was a Sunday School Teacher and active participant in the Prayer Quilt Ministry. She was a former member of the American Association of University Women, served on the Meals on Wheels Board, and was a Study Buddy in the Richmond Community Schools.
Survivors include her daughter, Susan (fiancé Randy Nussbaum) Weireter of Richmond; four grandsons, Eric Weireter of Durham, North Carolina, Jason Weireter of Columbus, Ohio, Brent Weireter of Richmond, and Ryan Weireter of Richmond; step-son, Jim Farr of Cincinnati, Ohio; nieces; nephews; cousins; and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 36 years, Carl Thomas Reynolds, who died on Oct. 14, 2000 and for whom she was his primary caregiver during his nine year illness; brother, Loyd McKinney; and son-in-law, Brian Weireter.
Visitation for Marjorie V. Reynolds will be from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Friday, September 25, 2015, at Doan & Mills Funeral Home, 790 National Road West, Richmond. Funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, September 26, 2015, at First Baptist Church, 1601 South A Street, Richmond with Rev. James Spon officiating. Burial will be in Crown Hill Cemetery.
