May is bustling month for new Hope visitors center at Yellow Trail
First of all, there has been a small adjustment for hours in an attempt to meet the needs of more traffic in Hope. Our new hours are now Thursdays and Fridays, open 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturdays 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sundays noon to 5 p.m.
There will be additional hours when special events take place in town. And appointments can be made to visit at other times by calling 812-546-8020 or 812-371-7969.
The Yellow Trail would like to invite all the Hope/Clifford/Hauser Alumni to stop in before they attend the Alumni Banquet the evening of May 20th. We will offer the showing of a tape made during the 50th anniversary of the Flat Rock-Hawcreek School Corp. This being the 60th anniversary, we would like to record even more stories.
Floats that afternoon will be available from about noon to 5 p.m. for any visitors, which might include alumni. Floats will be $1 each.
On May 22, at 6:30 p.m., the public is invited to join us for our annual contest, "Are You Smarter Than a Third Grader," during which third graders will challenge audience members to a challenge to see who knows the most about our town's history. This contest lasts about 20-25 minutes, following which the museum will be open for tours.
The museum will also be open following the Memorial Day Service at the Veterans Memorial in the cemetery, opening about 11:30 a.m. and closing about 1 p.m. on May 29.
Starting June 5th, our Genealogy Research Area will begin public operation. This research area will begin with open times on Mondays and Wednesdays, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. At those times someone from the area will be available to assist those who wish to use the materials in this new area. Other times to research can be made by appointment by calling 812-546-8020, during those open hours.
This means that the museum will actually be open at least part of each day except for Tuesdays beginning in June.
Since the opening of our new visitor information center, our visitor numbers have more than tripled. We offer a huge "Thank You" to our new receptionist/staff member Paige Waltz. Check out our Facebook page and our updated website at .
Coming up on June 3, we will be participating in the activities for Relay For Life. The museum will be open that day beginning at 10:00 a.m., offering ice cream floats and having a picture sale of pictures from the old Star Journal Collection that was given to us a few months ago. Those pictures may include some of your family members or friends. Pictures will be for sale all day for 25 cents each or 6 for $1. All proceeds from floats and picture sales will be donated to Relay for Life, so please come to see us that day.
Don't forget to put June 30th on your calendar, so you won't miss the Old Fashioned Independence Day Celebration on the town square and in the museum.
And keep watching for news of an actual grand opening of our new Visitor Information Center that should happen soon, once a bit of work is finished. In the meantime, plan to visit the Yellow Trail to see what you are missing.
